You will need slightly more time to reach Marriott Cancun from the airport than JW Marriott. Cancun International Airport is only 17.2 KM or 19 minutes of driving distance away from the Marriott Cancun.
From JW Marriott, this airport is 17.5 KM away, however, you will need 1 min less time to reach this resort than Marriott Cancun.
To reach the Marriott Cancun resort from Chetumal International Airport, you have to take a 4 hours 53 minutes drive (377 KM). The JW Marriott is 378 KM away from this airport so it takes around the same time to reach the resort.

As of Jan 30, 2023, the minimum rate for Marriott Cancun Resort per night starts from $249 excluding government taxes and fees. Whereas, the minimum rate at JW Marriott is $359 excluding government taxes and fees.
You also have to pay an additional resort fee of $41.65 per room for staying at JW Marriott and $35.7 per room for Marriott Cancun.
To avail full refund upon cancellation, you have to notify both resorts at least three days before your arrival date. Otherwise, you have to pay the full amount of the resort plus extra charges.

JW Marriott has an elegant warm tone lobby, on the contrary, the Marriott Cancun has a cool-toned modern lobby.
JW Marriott’s lobby has brown lights and a gorgeous chandelier. This marble-floored lobby is adorned with fresh flowers. Whereas, Marriott Cancun’s lobby has white walls and white circular chandeliers. This lobby area stretches like a long hallway throughout the main building.
JW Marriot has seating places in every corner of the lobby. Whereas, in Marriott Resort, there is a white and turquoise blue seating arrangement in one arranged line.

JW Marriott provides evening turndown services in all the rooms. You won’t get this service at Marriott Cancun. It is a nice feeling when your bed is freshly made before you go to sleep after a long tiring day at the beach.
In-Room Amenities
JW Marriot and Marriott Cancun have some different in-room amenities. Unlike Marriott Cancun, JW Marriott has writing desks, so, if you like to have some work done during your stay, it will be convenient. Also, this resort has extra electric outlets near the desks for your computer.
In JW Marriott “bed types are not guaranteed” guestrooms, cribs, and Rollaway beds are not permitted. Whereas, 1 crib and a rollaway bed are permitted in all the Marriott Cancunguest rooms.
Premium suits in JW Marriott have wet bars. On the other hand, no rooms in Marriott Cancun have this facility.
There are radios in every room of the Marriott Cancun, unlike the JW Marriot.
Other in-room amenities are almost similar in both resorts. For example, both resorts have pillowtop mattresses, featherbeds, duvets, LED TVs with premium movie channels, iPod docks, alarm clocks, safes, chairs, etc.
Laundry and Drycleaning Service
Both resorts provide laundry or dry cleaning services. However, there is no in-room washer or dryer in any of these resorts.
You can also go to nearby laundry services. From JW Marriottoe the nearby laundry service called “Lavender Laundromat” is 7 minutes walking distance away. And from the Marriott resort, it is 9 minutes of walking distance away.
All rooms in JW Marriott and Marriott Cancun are equipped with an ironing board and iron.
Neither JW Marriott nor Marriott Cancun provides individual dryers/washers in their amenities.
Room Cleanliness
From my personal experience, JW Marriott is cleaner and more well-kept than Marriott Cancun. The lobby area, concierge desk, etc. was squeaky clean in JW Marriott.
During my stay at Marriott Cancun, I heard one of the guests complaining about her room. According to the guest, the bed wasn’t made properly and there was trash on the room and balcony floor. It could be an honest mistake on the part of the hotel as that was pick season and the staff was extremely busy.
Bath and Bathroom Features
The JW Marriott bathrooms are much nicer and have better features than the Marriott Cancun bathroom.
Some of the premium rooms in JW Marriott have 1.5 bathrooms, which means, you will get one full bathroom and one relatively small bathroom with only a shower and toilet. Marriott Cancun has no such options.
JW Marriott has a separate bathtub and shower in all the rooms. On the contrary, Marriott Cancundoes don’t have bathtubs in their bathrooms. Not even in the presidential suits. It can be a disappointment for some people.
Bathrooms in both resorts have marble flooring and white and grey walls. But the JW Marriott’s oversized bathrooms have an ocean-blue colored accent wall that changes the overall ambience.
Unlike Marriott resort, you will get light makeup mirrors, robes, and slippers in every JW Marriott bathroom.
Cuisine and Dining Service
The majority of top-class restaurants are near Marriott Resort. However, there are good restaurants and bars near JW Marriott as well. Here are some of the significant on-site restaurants and bars.
Gustino Italian Grill: This restaurant is an excellent choice for having dinner with authentic Italian cuisine. It’s open every day from 5:30 PM-11:00 PM. Both the JW Marriott and Marriott Cancun Are 5 minutes walking distance away from this restaurant.
Lobby Bar: Enjoy unique margaritas and cocktails from innovative mixologists and a tequila connoisseur team. The bar is an onsite bar of JW Marriott and opens every day from 4:00 PM-12:00 AM.
BeachWalk: Experience fancy American lunch and tropical cocktails near the beach.
This open beach restaurant is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day. This restaurant is 6 minutes walking distance away from JW Marriott and 8 minutes from the Marriot resort.
Gift Shop and 750 Pizzeria: You can have a quick snack from this cafe while doing last-minute shopping for friends and family. This shop is inside the JW Marriott and you have to walk 6 minutes from the Marriott Cancun to get there.
Kasai Izakaya & Ramen Noodle Bar: if you are craving authentic Japanese food, this bar is a perfect place. It’s open for dinner-time. If you are staying at JW Marriott, you have to walk 7 minutes to get to this bar. And from the Marriott Cancun, you will need 1 minute.
Sasi Thai: Another dinnertime restaurant for having amazing Thai food. You can also enjoy the best sunset view in Cancun from this restaurant. This restaurant is 1 minute’s walking distance away from Marriott Cancun resort and 7-minute walking distance away from the JW Marriott.
Mikado: If you are a fan of sports, Mikado is a perfect place to watch a game while sipping artisan local beer. They have 2 giant screens and more than 22 TVs. This bar is inside the Marriott Cancun and is 6 minutes walking distance away from the JW Marriott.
Hana Polynesian Grill: Holidays are incomplete without a nice grilled dinner. You can enjoy Polynesian culture as well. You have to walk 7 minutes to get here from JW Marriott and 1 minute to the Marriott resort.
Sacbé Beach Shack: You can enjoy daytime DJs on the beach and have a sip on Mexican handcrafted cocktails. You just have to walk 7 minutes from JW Marriott and 1 Minute from Marriott resort.

Both resorts provide room services and you can order food from almost all the restaurants on the property.
Also, there are tea/coffee makers in all the rooms of both resorts. There is also paid bottled water and a minibar in every room.
Indoor And Outdoor Sports
JW Marriott has an indoor game that you can’t enjoy in Marriott Cancun. Also, this resort has a bigger and better Tennis Court than the Marriott resort.
On-site Fitness Center and Spa
JW Mariotte fitness center offers fitness classes on yoga, cross-training, spinning, and more. Marriott Cancun doesn’t offer any faculty like this.
However, both resorts have well-equipped gyms with cardiovascular equipment, free weights, stair climbers, and so on.
As the name suggests, JW Marriott Resort Resort & Spa has a luxurious on-site spa. Sens-yah Spa is a 35,000 sq. ft, world-class spa that offers treatments like massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, body scrubs, body wraps, and many more.
They also have luxurious amenities like an indoor heated lap pool, jacuzzi, tennis court, Separate Men’s & Women’s Lounges, and steam room.

If you are staying at Marriott Resort, you have to walk around 6 minutes to get there. The Marriott Cancun also has an on-site full-service spa, but that is not as fancy as Sens-yah Spa.
Swimming Pool
JW Marriott has more pools with better features than Marriott Cancun.
Unlike the Marriott Cancun, the JW Marriott has an indoor heated spa pool, a 14 ft. outdoor dive pool with an artificial reef, and an outdoor free-form heated adult pool.
Both resorts have family outdoor swimming pools with children’s pools and whirlpools.
Accessibility Features
JW Marriott provides accessible vanities which Marriott Cancun doesn’t provide.
Both JW Marriot and Marriott Cancun have ramps around the property for wheelchairs. And that also goes down to the beach. They don’t have ramps to access the balcony but they will build temporary ramps according to your needs.
Corporate And Event Facility
If you are planning your destination wedding in Cancun, these resorts could be the best choice. They are great for corporate events as well. However, the meeting and event rooms have some dissimilarities.

If you want high-speed internet for your computer, you have to pay fees for both resorts.

JW Marriott has more meeting rooms and more spacious rooms for events than Marriott resort.
The largest event room of JW Marriott can accommodate 1800 guests at once for reception and 1100 guests for a banquet. Whereas, Marriott Cancun can accommodate 800 guests for a reception and 660 for a banquet at its largest event room.
JW Marriott has 18 breakout rooms and the Marriott Cancun has 12 breakout rooms. So, if you are planning a big corporate event with more members, JW Marriott is a better option.
